IPESS JOSTUM SEEKS COLLABORATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF WATER RESOURCES AND SANITATION
The Institute of Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards (IPESS), Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University (JOSTUM) has moved to foster collaborations with the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation for sustainable human capacity development in the areas of procurement, environmental and social standards.
IPESS JOSTUM management team, led by the Center Leader and Director, Prof. Lami A. Nnamonu, on 11th December 2024 paid a courtesy visit on the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr Professor Terlumun Utsev to concretize arrangements for the robust partnership.
The Center Leader and Director. Prof. Lama A Nnamonu on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor JOSTUM extended warm regards to the Minister and stated that, the visit was to introduce the activities of IPESS and explore opportunities for collaboration with the Ministry. Prof. Nnamonu congratulated the Minister on his appointment and expressed gratitude for accommodating the delegation at a short notice. The Center Director outlined the achievements and objectives of IPESS and highlighted the processes that led to the selection of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University as the host institution for the Federal Government’s Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement (SPESSE) project. She asserted that IPESS, representing the North Central region, has consistently ranked highest among the six Centers of Excellence established across Nigeria.
According to the Center Leader, the partnership would benefit the Ministry through capacity building programmes for the Ministry’s staff and utilization of IPESS Environmental Testing Laboratory for environmental and water analysis services. The Center Director requested the Minister to serve as a resource person during the Master Class and International Conference planned by IPESS in April 2025.
The Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr Professor Terlumun Utsev expressed delight on the visit and commended IPESS JOSTUM management team for the milestones attained by the Center. The Minister stated that, the Ministry focuses on capacity building and expressed readiness to collaborate with IPESS JOSTUM for the training of her staff. Prof. Utsev informed of his planned visit to Makurdi within the month of December 2024 and indicated an interest in meeting with the IPESS team to discuss further details and potential engagements. The Minister while confirming his willingness to attend the International Conference and serve as a resource person at the Master Class in April 2025 further revealed that the Ministry manages approximately 15 testing laboratories nationwide and expressed interest in establishing one at JOSTUM for the benefit of all concerned.
The courtesy visit, which was facilitated by the University Liaison Officer, Mrs. Larai Gbum was aimed at establishing a firm foundation for collaboration between CIPESS and the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation.
