IPESS JOSTUM OFFERS MORE THAN JUST CERTIFICATES: SHORT COURSE GRADUANDS PROFESS

Online short course (Track A) graduands at the Institute of Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards (IPESS) Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) have openly admitted having acquired not just certificates but also career shaping skills and experiences through the Institutes’ human capacity building programme.
The graduands made the declaration recently during IPESS JOSTUM’s Track a valedictory event which held on 18th April 2025. In separate speeches, Anngu Orngu, Ijeoma Gift Onyinye-Mbamalu, and Rebecca Umbur Abanka of Environmental, Procurement, and Social Standards respectively expressed satisfaction on the structure and mode of delivery of the programme stating that, the experience has opened their eyes to new possibilities within and outside their working environments. According to Ijeoma Gift Onyinye-Mbamalu, “let me say that the trainings offered through IPESS-JOSTUM are more than just courses; they are career-shaping experiences. I encourage more professionals to seize the opportunity, invest in themselves, and join this transformative journey. For many of us, this experience has opened our eyes to new possibilities, and I trust we’ll meet again in future learning spaces.”
The standards representatives further urged their fellow trainees to sustain the relationship created by the Institute and be the change they seek in a bid to improve the society. “As we graduate today, let us not see this as an end, but rather a new beginning – a call to action as we return to our roles as community advocates, project officers, development practitioners, government actors, and changemakers equipped with new knowledge, confidence, and clarity of purpose. Be reminded that knowledge comes with responsibility. Let us carry forward the principles we’ve learned into our workplaces, our communities, and our personal lives,” Rebecca Umbur Abanka stated.
Anngu Orngu on his part charged the trainees to carry with them the lessons learned, the wisdom imparted, and the values instilled bearing in mind that they were equipped to make a mark and shape the world around them.
Delivering a presentation on the theme “Drivers of Change,” the Assistant Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Mrs Patricia Kuma Tabe charged the graduands to seek to be different and apply the knowledge and skills acquired to drive the needed positive change. She asserted that, as change agents, graduands were expected to be committed to promoting best practices by upholding integrity, professionalism, and patriotism as well as contribute to reducing the incidences of corruption and mismanagement of public resources. Patricia Tabe further called on the graduands to sustain the already established relationship and endeavour to respond promptly to inquiries emanating from the Center and other implementing units of the project to authenticate their participation.
Earlier in a goodwill message, the Center Leader and Director, Professor Lami A. Nnnamonu congratulated the graduands for the feat and stated that, the programme was designed to build sustainable human capacity for people who will be committed to applying the instilled knowledge to improve not just their workplaces but the society at large. The Center Director who was represented by the Standards Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of Procurement Standards, Daniel Laka while commending participants’ resilience, dedication and commitment further encouraged them to value the certificates as they have the potentials of changing their lives.
The Project Management Officer, Dr John Ona in his remarks appreciated the management of the institute for seamlessly organizing the training and the graduands for making the training worthwhile through participation and completion of the training. Dr Ona encouraged graduands not to relent in their journeys to becoming professionals and further encouraged them to seek more learning opportunities at the Institute by applying for other programmes ranging from Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree, Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the areas of procurement, environmental and social standards.
